Okay, this scavenger hunt thing is a bit ridiculous. But some of it is really kind of fun. Especially one of the list items, which is basically- recode Pacman but add these things. Now I have tried some basic HTML coding, it wasn't pretty. However, I got some help and managed to recode Pacman with the help of the Byond engine, and holy heck guys. They've created a monster! I loved it.
Byond seems like a pretty good engine to use if you're just starting out, and the website has a pretty decent reference that was a huge help too. Once the hunt is over I will post screenshots of this amazing monster I've created, and if I ever make anything similar in the future, you'll hear about it first here.
Ps. I'm awful at pacman, testing this game is a pain.
Thanks for reading!

ReplyDeleteHi! My name is Valeria, and I too am a GISHWHESian. I've been looking through sites to try to figure out how to recode the pacman game, but was having no such luck, until I fell across your hint with Byond engine!
DeleteBut I've never recoded a game, and so I'm sitting here, trying to go through the tutorials with absolutely no idea what to do. Last time I had an html class was in high school. And that was how to create websites, NOT how to make games.
I wanted to know, from one competitor to another, if you'd be willing to give a hint as to how to go about this recoding business. I in turn, can exchange a hint on how to successfully make a cucumber kilt (if you are facing difficulties)or another help of equal value.
Happy hunting, and good luck on the crazy endeavors which Misha has unleashed upon the world!

P.S. Sorry, I've never used blogspot before, and it double posted, and then deleted both, so I had to repost my original comment.
Hi, sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you.
DeleteI'm not too sure what advice I can give, I ended up getting a lot of help from a few guys I know that are programmers, they weren't familiar with the Byond language but with their help we managed to jenkball a couple of solutions together. I also found the Byond reference on the site really helpful and the forums were the biggest help.
Another tip I'd give is if you know someone that does pixel art, get them to design your sprites. Holy hell, I am bad at pixel art. Getting someone who's used to those limitations already would've been much easier but unfortunatly I didn't know any artists that could help.
Again I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you (I'll be doing a post why) and I hope that this is somewhat helpful. Try joining the forums, you'll maybe get a more indepth answer that way too. And thank you so much for your offer of help!
Good Luck!
Thanks for replying!
DeleteI think I'll try to scrap up some help through the forums and see if anyone's willing to comply ^__^
Man, I forgot there's the whole sprite process too. I thought maybe a google image would be enough, but it does make sense to actually have to do everything from scratch.
No, it's fine! I didn't even know you answered because I guess I don't know how to get alerts or emails, so I just checked back today and was actually even a little pleasantly surprised that you answered!
Thanks again for all the advice.
Best of luck to you too!
No worries, I just hope it was some help. The problem with google images is that they're almost always too large and most likely have some form of copyright. I'm trying currently to get permissions for music for the game but it's not going well. And then there'll be the process of recording it :S
DeleteBut anyway, I'll let you get on because it takes a good while to get it all done and tested.
